Moving the Needle in Illinois- A Literacy Advocacy Gathering

Join Redwood for a virtual gathering full of passionate literacy advocates.

Our goal for this event is to come together in the literacy space and share our knowledge and experience for tangible change around the literacy crisis in Illinois. Join Redwood and our panel of experts for two hours of facilitated discussion around the challenges we are seeing, movements that are gaining traction, and ideas on how we can create change in our cities.

During this two-hour virtual gathering, you will have the opportunity to hear from all of our panelists as well as share your thoughts in one of our breakout sessions based on the topic you feel most passionate about. Our panelists and Redwood staff will facilitate these breakout sessions as we allow for a more intimate conversation before bringing it back to our whole group discussion. The breakout rooms will be:

How Parents Can Help with Brett Tingley, President of Parents for Reading Justice, Louise Dechovitz, Cofounder Illinois Early Literacy Coalition, and Germaine Gordon, MA, R-DMT, Redwood Schools Board Member

• How Policy and Law Can Help with Jessica Handy, Executive Director of Stand for Children Illinois

• How Educators Can Help with Kellyn Sirach, RTI Interventionist and Co-Founder Project Monarch

If you are in or willing to travel to Chicago, we invite you to join us at the Redwood office that evening for an in-person networking gathering among attendees. We will use this time to connect in hopes of taking action on some of the ideas we came up with during the afternoon session. Space is limited so please only sign up for the evening event if you are going to attend.
